The Ukrainian special services and the head of the Khortytsia Eastern Front at the time, Oleksandr Syrskyi, supported the idea of moving the war to the territory of russia, the aggressor country, but at that time the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, was against it, as he was a supporter of "head-on" offensives.
Verkhovna Rada member Maryana Bezuhla wrote about this on Facebook on Wednesday, August 14.
According to her, Zaluzhnyi refused even to work in the direction of transferring the war to russia, and this despite the political pressure of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on this matter.
"Zaluzhnyi was a supporter of linear operations and, having no combat experience, preferred traditional “head-on” offensives, which were implemented with variable success in 2022 in the Kherson Region and completely failed in 2023 in the Zaporizhzhia Region. Syrskyi, in turn, insisted on the search for unprotected places and rapid attacks, which he proposed for the liberation of the Kharkiv Region in 2022, and even the question of going further to secure the border was raised. But then it was offensive on Kherson, and Zaluzhnyi was against spending resources elsewhere," Bezuhla wrote.
The Kharkiv counteroffensive in 2022 took place thanks to the fact that Syrskyi managed to get Zelenskyy to intervene at Staff, the MP reported. Bezuhla also called Zaluzhnyi's offensive in the south in 2023 "talentless" because of continuous publicity indicating the directions of advancement. Meanwhile, the MP characterized the operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk Oblast of the russian federation as the most unexpected direction for the enemy with the provision of informational silence and the use of elite units instead of new brigades: "Do you remember when in 2023 they chose the information strategy of "shouting from everywhere that we are going there"? At the time, more than one military man admitted to me that he hoped until the end that this was such a diversionary maneuver. But it was not," Bezuhla emphasized.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on July 15, a member of the Verkhovna Rada from the Servant of the People faction, deputy head of the parliamentary committee on national security, defense and intelligence, Maryana Bezuhla, was recalled from the post of head of the subcommittee on democratic civilian oversight and control.
On July 17, the member of the Verkhovna Rada, Maryana Bezuhla, left the Servant of the People faction.
On July 22, the Committee on National Security of the Verkhovna Rada voted to introduce a resolution to exclude Bezuhla from its membership.
