Pace of natural gas injection by foreign traders into Ukrainian underground storage facilities fall against background of russian missile attacks - Chernyshov

The pace of natural gas injection by foreign traders into Ukrainian underground storage facilities decreased against the background of russian missile attacks that took place in March-April 2024.

Oleksii Chernyshov, the chairman of the board of the Naftogaz of Ukraine National Joint Stock Company, announced this in an article in the Financial Times, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

At the same time, he noted that at present natural gas injection and withdrawal by foreign traders is carried out as usual.

"This year, the rate of injection decreased somewhat due to Russian attacks on the gas infrastructure. However, the main commercial factor remains - the spread. The price of gas today is not profitable enough for traders to form reserves. Last year, the peak of injection fell precisely in August-September, and the season lasted until October inclusive," Chernyshov said.

At the same time, it is expected that European underground natural gas storages will soon be full, because as of the first decade of August 2024, they are already 86% full.

At the same time, according to Chernyshov, in September and October there will be a lot of free space in the Ukrainian underground storage facilities.

In addition, the company is constantly working on additional infrastructure protection.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Naftogaz aims to increase the volume of European traders' natural gas in Ukrainian underground storage facilities by 60% to 4 billion cubic meters in 2024 compared to 2023.
