Today, August 9, the law on the decriminalization of petty theft and the introduction of fines for it comes into force.
This is stated in the published law, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
The law was published in "Voice of Ukraine" on August 8.
According to its provisions, it enters into force on the day following its publication.
The decriminalization of petty theft in the amount of up to UAH 3,000 is foreseen (previously, the theft of property worth over UAH 300 was a criminal act).
The law also strengthens administrative responsibility for petty theft:
- for theft in the amount of up to UAH 757, a fine in the amount from UAH 850 to UAH 1,700 is provided;
- for theft from UAH 758 to UAH 3,028 - fine from UAH 1,700 to UAH 5,100;
- for repeated theft - a fine from UAH 8,500 to UAH 17,000.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a law on strengthening administrative responsibility for petty theft of other people's property and regulating some other issues of law enforcement activities.
