The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it regrets the decision of the authorities of the African country Niger to break off diplomatic relations, rejects any accusations and emphasized that such a decision is a gesture of solidarity with russia, which is waging war against Ukraine.
This is announced in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"Ukraine took into account the decision of the authorities of the Republic of Niger on August 6, 2024 to sever diplomatic relations with Ukraine. The accusations against Ukraine made in the statement of the representative of the government of this country do not withstand any criticism, are groundless and untrue," the foreign policy department noted.
It is also emphasized that Ukraine resolutely rejects any accusations against it of its alleged "support for international terrorism, violation of the UN Charter and international law."
Also, Ukraine comes out of the fact that, according to the statement, such a decision is a gesture of "solidarity" with those who chose the path of rapprochement with the russian federation, which has been waging a full-scale war against Ukraine for more than two years.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that russia destabilizes the international security and political situation, spreads chaos and confrontation in all corners of the world, including the African continent.
"It is regrettable that the authorities of Niger decided to sever diplomatic relations with Ukraine without conducting any investigations into the incident in Mali and without providing any evidence regarding the reasons for such a step," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized.
At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, Ukraine is sincerely determined to continue building mutually beneficial relations with all African states on the basis of equality, non-interference in internal affairs, respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries within internationally recognized borders, and strict observance of international law, goals and principles of the UN charter.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the transitional government of Mali announced the severance of diplomatic relations with Ukraine due to Kyiv's alleged involvement in the destruction of russian mercenaries of the Wagner PMC, while Ukraine was accused of supporting terrorism.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine called the decision of the transitional government of Mali to break diplomatic relations with Ukraine short-sighted and hasty.
