The United States of America did not know in advance about the planning of operations by the Defense Forces in the Kursk Oblast and is going to contact the Ukrainian side to learn more about the goals. At the same time, the USA expressed support for Ukraine in measures to protect against russian aggression.
This was said by White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre.
"I can say that we're going to - obviously, we've seen the reports... So we're going to contact the Ukrainian military to find out more about their goals. As far as the specifics, I'm referring you to the Ukrainians to talk about their own military operations," she said.
At the same time, Jean-Pierre emphasized that the USA supports Ukraine in what it is doing, defending itself against russian aggression. She added that it is important to do this because it is about democracy and freedom.
"And they're going to take action - yes? Healthy actions to certainly protect themselves against these attacks. But as far as the specific operation, we're going to contact them to find out what their goal is and continue to focus on it. We will continue to focus on making sure they have everything they need to defend against russian aggression," she explained.
To the question of whether the United States knew in advance about the plans of Ukraine, Jean-Pierre answered in the negative.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on the evening of August 6, the Ministry of Defense of the russian federation confirmed the information about the breakthrough of the Armed Forces of Ukraine of the Kursk Oblast border. In order to contain the Ukrainian units, the occupiers were forced to send reserves.
Among the losses of the russians is a Mi-28 attack helicopter, which SSU fighters shot down with the help of an FPV drone. This is the first recorded case since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, and probably in history.
The press service of the Hochu Nayti [I want to find] project reported that during the hostilities in the Kursk Oblast, 32 russian soldiers were captured by the Ukrainian military. Among them are both contract soldiers, conscripts and mobilized.
On August 7, the authorities of the Kursk Oblast of the aggressor country of the russian federation announced the introduction of a state of emergency against the background of active hostilities that began in the south of the region on August 6.
Earlier, Washington reported that it was not aware of Kyiv's plans to launch an operation in the Kursk Oblast.
