Washington will make decisions on the use of American weapons provided to Ukraine and restrictions on strikes on the territory of the russian federation depending on the situation on the battlefield.
This was stated by the spokesperson of the US Department of State, Matthew Miller, at a briefing, Voice of America reports.
Responding to a journalist's question about the restrictions imposed by the United States on strikes by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the territory of the aggressor country, the American official confirmed that the position of the US authorities remains unchanged, even after Ukraine received the first batch of F-16 fighter jets from Western partners.
Speaking about the possibility of expanding permits for the Ukrainian army to strike military facilities deep in russia, Miller noted that his position has not changed.
"We continue to assess the needs of the Ukrainian military, analyze the security situation and try to respond to their requests," said the representative of the Department of State.
He added that this process continues from the beginning of the conflict until today.
"This is how we make decisions about the weapons that we provide to Ukraine, as well as the restrictions, if any, that we impose on the use of these weapons," Miller said.
At the same time, the spokesman of the Department of State did not give a clear answer to the question of expanding the capabilities of Western partners and NATO members to shoot down russian missiles launched by the aggressor over Ukraine.
He noted that such a decision should be taken collectively by NATO members.
We will remind, as reported by the Ukrainian News Agency, since the Defense Forces cannot attack russian airfields with Western weapons, they do it with their own means, in particular drones. So, on the night of August 3, strong explosions were heard near the Morozovsk military airfield of the russian occupiers in the Rostov Oblast.
