The Ministry of Defense of the Czech Republic is considering the possibility of creating a unit of Ukrainian citizens who live on the territory of the state and are subject to conscription into the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Minister of Defense Jana Černochová told about this in the Interview ČT 24 program.
According to her, a fairly large Ukrainian community lives on the territory of the Czech Republic.
"We want to continue the training of the Ukrainian military, so why not perhaps train Czech citizens who declare their nationality as Ukrainian, and form a unit from them," said the Czech Defense Minister.
The spokesman of the Ministry of Defense of the Czech Republic, Karel Čapek, noted that the department is currently evaluating the Polish project from the practical and legal aspects, but this idea could help with the lack of combat-ready people at the front. Thousands of interested parties have already announced their willingness to join, the article says.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in May, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Radosław Sikorski, stated that the country's authorities plan to prepare a Ukrainian unit formed from Ukrainians in Poland who are subject to conscription into the Ukrainian army.
It will be recalled that at the end of April, the Minister of Defense of Poland, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, stated that his country is ready to help Ukraine in the return of men of military age.
