Bohdan Krotevych, Chief of Staff of the 12th Azov Special Forces Brigade, has commented on the counteroffensive of the Defense Forces of Ukraine in 2023. He called the attack on the five lines of defense prepared by the russians "idiocy".
He said this in an interview with the Ukrainian Pravda journalist Mykhailo Tkach.
"To attack the five lines of defense is idiocy. This is something that we cannot learn. I don't know, maybe we should conduct self-immolation in front of the Verkhovna Rada in order to speak and be heard," said Krotevych.
According to him, it was necessary to attack where the front line did not move to either side for a long time, because there, according to Krotevych, the personnel become more careless.
"And where the enemy loses vigilance, that's where you have to hit. What do we have? In interviews, everyone says that we will go to Crimea, and we are going to Crimea. Seriously? It's not the war that kills me, but such total idiocy," added the officer of Azov.
He emphasized that he cannot blame anyone for the fact that the counteroffensive was carried out on that part of the front. Krotevych is sure that the decision was made by a council, that is, someone was in favor and someone was against, but in the end this decision was made.
He added again that the counteroffensive was "idiotic".
Krotevych also said that the Armed Forces had information that the russians were ready to withdraw to Tokmak, as their main line of defense was right there.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, already a week after the start of the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the south of the Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia Regions, it became clear that the russian troops were putting up much more serious resistance than initially anticipated.
Recall that in July 2023, the American edition of The Washington Post found out that the West satisfied only 15% of Ukraine's request for demining equipment, which was needed by the Armed Forces of Ukraine to overcome the minefields of the russians.
We also reported that on December 1, 2023, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy admitted that the counteroffensive did not allow Ukraine to achieve the desired results.
Besides, U.S. military officials generally believed that the Armed Forces of Ukraine would be able to reach the Sea of Azov, spending no more than 60 days on this.
