Successful exit of AFU from encirclement in Donetsk Region does not solve problem of failure in command — Forbes

The successful operation of several units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine, which made it possible to save several hundred servicemen from death or capture, demonstrates the problems of the Ukrainian command.

The American publication Forbes reports this.

The publication reports with reference to analysts of the Ukrainian DeepState project that a day after two battalions of the 31st Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were encircled in the area of the settlement of Prohres, the Ukrainian military had to make a tough decision.

Instead of waiting for rescue, the servicemen decided to break through the ring of encirclement with a fight and battle their way to the main Ukrainian line.

The remaining units of the 31st Separate Mechanized Brigade and, probably, the nearby 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade, apparently helped the Ukrainian military to escape from the encirclement.

The successful evacuation saved potentially hundreds of Ukrainian servicemen from death or capture and deprived the kremlin of a major propaganda victory.

At the same time, the publication notes that this success does not solve the fundamental problem of the Armed Forces — the failure of the command to lead operations.

DeepState analysts previously wrote with reference to their own sources that the decision to break through the encirclement was made by the fighters themselves, since the brigade command did not give such an order.

"So the personnel who were in that area confronted him with the fact that the boys would break through with a fight," the media quotes a fragment of the DeepState message.

This publication also refers to the words of Ukrainian journalist Yurii Butusov, who said the day before that the main problem is management and organization of actions.

According to him, the Armed Forces are allegedly late in reacting to the situation, despite the obviousness of russian plans and good intelligence work.

"The direction lacks coordinated brigade headquarters, the logic of the use of troops and ammunition. Assigning tasks to weak headquarters of poorly organized brigades is ignoring the real combat capability of the troops, such a practice is sharply criticized in the troops," wrote Butusov.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on July 25 it became known that servicemen of two battalions of the 31st Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine conducted a successful operation to get out of the encirclement in which they got near the village of Prohres, Donetsk Region.
