The Naftogaz of Ukraine national joint-stock company is confident that it will be able to fully meet the needs of electricity generation with gas during the heating season of 2024-2025, given the pace of restoration of damaged blocks of thermal power plants and the connection of new generating facilities.
The chairman of the board of the company, Oleksii Chernyshov, said this in a comment to Enerhoreform (Energy Reform), Interfax-Ukraine reports.
"We know approximately how much capacity we will have to provide...We see how many stations are connected now, we see how many technical conditions we issue, and we fully cover these additional needs," he said.
Chernyshov also noted that the amount of gas not used due to the destruction by the russians and the shutdown of TPP units will cover the amount of gas that will be needed for new generation.
"This is an equation (gas supply for electricity generation), the solution of which is related to two factors. The first is how much new generation will need. The second is how much will be released given that not all thermal generation will be restored. It seems to me that the second parameter will definitely be greater than the first one," he said.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Naftogaz plans to accumulate 13 billion cubic meters of gas in underground gas storage facilities before the heating season of 2024/2025.
At the same time, gas reserves in underground gas storage facilities as of July 22 exceeded 10 billion cubic meters.
Ukraine intends to build 1 GW of flexible gas generation in 2024 and another 4 GW in the coming years.
