Passenger transportation in suburban traffic in the first half of 2024 compared to last year's figure increased by 2% to more than 20.6 million passengers.
This is stated in the message of Ukrzaliznytsia, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"Every day, 113,000 passengers use suburban trains to get to work, study, hospitals, or simply go on business. Ukrzaliznytsia transported a quarter of passengers free of charge under various benefits. Despite the unprofitability of suburban transportation, Ukrzaliznytsia finds opportunities to update its rolling stock. Thus, since the beginning of the year, Ukrzaliznytsia has already modernized 5 electric trains and one diesel train using its own capacities," the message says.
At the same time, the largest passenger traffic in suburban traffic is concentrated in the capital region.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Ukrzaliznytsia increased passenger transportation by 22% in May.
