The head of the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense, Kyrylo Budanov, believes that the assumptions of military analysts and the official statements of the russian leadership that the russians are now allegedly trying to create a buffer zone along the border with Ukraine in the Kharkiv Region in order to protect Belgorod are frivolous talk.
Budanov said this on the air of the telethon, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
The chief intelligence officer believes that the purpose of the russian border operation in the Kharkiv Region is primarily to sow chaos and panic in Ukraine.
"First of all, the goal (of the russians) is to sow chaos and panic inside the state. All this talks about buffer zones... So where are they doing it? In two separate directions? And between them, how should there be a buffer zone?... This is not simply serious talk. This is the official position expressed by the russian leadership to justify what they are doing and somehow explain to the russians what they are doing now in the Kharkiv Region. Here we allegedly want to protect the city of Belgorod, for this we will create a buffer zone. In fact, we went in two separate directions, there is no solid lane, and in principle we still do not see that it is realistic to do this. And it would not help the city of Belgorod much," he said.
Budanov considers efforts to distract and disperse the Defense Forces of Ukraine to be another goal of the russians.
"Another goal that the russians want to achieve is to divert all the forces and resources that we have formed in small reserves, to stretch them along the front and throw them, as they say, to defend themselves. I think that after all, we will deal with it," Budanov said.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Budanov stated that as of the evening of Monday, May 13, a rapid trend towards stabilization of the situation has emerged at the front in the Kharkiv Region.
