Hungary may support sanctions against russia following example of US
With the change of administration in the US, Hungary may support the extension of sanctions against the aggressor country of russia.
This was reported by Brussels correspondent of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty Rikard Jozwiak on his Twitter account on Tuesday, January 21.
The journalist noted that the ambassadors of the European Union are going to agree on the extension of sanctions against the aggressor country of russia for six months. According to him, the position of the US may influence Hungary's decision on this matter.
“Looks like 🇪🇺 ambassadors on Friday will be able to extend its economic sanctions on Russia by six months. Hungary has so far been reluctant but the new 🇺🇸 administration appear to want sanctions to continue. Deadline for EU roll-over is January 31,” Jozwiak wrote.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on January 17, the head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, stated that the European Union sees no reason to abandon the large-scale sanctions that were introduced against the aggressor country of russia after its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
On January 16, Hungary stated that Budapest was not yet ready to support the extension of sanctions against russia.
As a reminder, at the end of December 2024, it became known that the European Union had begun work on the 16th package of sanctions against russia.
