EU begins work on new package of sanctions against russia. Media finds out what restrictions it will contain

The European Union is developing a new package of sanctions restrictions against the aggressor country russia. Brussels plans to adopt the 16th package of sanctions by the anniversary of the russian federation's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The German publication Welt reported this, citing unnamed sources from European diplomatic circles.

According to sources, the new package of sanctions is intended to send a clear signal to russia. It will contain restrictions against specific sectors of the russian economy and individuals involved in hybrid warfare.

According to the publication, the European Union and the European External Action Service (EEAS) plan to impose an entry ban and freeze the assets of other individuals who spied for russia and participated in disinformation campaigns.

Brussels expects to adopt a new package of sanctions against russia by February 24, 2025 — the third anniversary of the russian federation's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The previous, 15th package of EU sanctions against russia was adopted on December 16, 2024. It contains restrictions on 84 individuals and legal entities responsible for military aggression against Ukraine.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on December 19 it became known that due to the sanctions, every fourth shopping center in russia got on the verge of bankruptcy.

And the day before, we reported that the U.S. threatened Hong Kong banks with sanctions for cooperating with russia and providing space for the creation of shell companies to purchase Iranian oil.
