It is already known that about ten people were killed and 20 wounded in Chernihiv as a result of the russian missile attack. The rescue operation is underway.
This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Telegram, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"Chernihiv. A rescue operation is underway after a russian missile attack. People are under the rubble. As of this time, we know about 20 were wounded and ten killed. My condolences to the family and friends. Unfortunately, the number of dead may increase," he said.
Zelenskyy emphasized that such a tragedy could have been avoided if Ukraine had received enough air defense equipment from its partners and if the world's determination to counter russian terror had also been sufficient.
"Terrorists are able to break lives only when they first manage to intimidate those who are able to stop terror and protect life. Determination matters. Support matters. Ukrainian determination is enough. We need sufficient determination of partners and sufficient support that will reflect it," stressed the President.
In turn, the head of the Chernihiv Regional Military Administration, Viyacheslav Chaus, said on the air of the national telethon that as a result of the rocket strikes, many multi-story residential buildings, several civil infrastructure buildings, and dozens of vehicles were damaged.
At the same time, communications in the city are intact.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, russian troops hit Chernihiv with three missiles on Wednesday morning.
Acting mayor Oleksandr Lomako reported that the enemy hit an eight-story social infrastructure building with a rocket.
He also noted that as of 10:40 a.m., there were eight killed and 18 wounded.
