There is a possibility that the russian troops will not be able to capture all the territories of the city of Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk Region by May 9, but will limit themselves to the eastern district. However, the lack of artillery and air defense equipment in the Armed Forces of Ukraine may contribute to a faster advance of the invaders during the operation to capture the city.

This was stated in a report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

ISW's analysis shows that the russian military leadership aims to capture Chasiv Yar within three and a half weeks, which shows their assessment of the ability of russian forces to attack quickly compared to past operations such as the capture of Bakhmut in 2023 or Avdiyivka in 2024.

The report also suggests that the russian military command is counting on the lack of ammunition in the Armed Forces of Ukraine to allow them to capture the city within weeks, although ISW notes that russian forces have so far only reached the easternmost part of the Kanal neighborhood in the east of the city.

Analysts also point out that the russian command often sets unrealistic goals for the advance, and some russian soldiers hope that their offensive could lead to the simple capture of the Novyi neighborhood in the southeast of Chasiv Yar by May 9.

"The russian military command will continue offensive actions on Chasiv Yar until their culmination. However, the russians may advance faster than in previous operations, given the current shortage of artillery and air defense assets in Ukraine," the ISW report said.

It will be recalled that Syrskyi reported that the higher russian military leadership set the task for its troops to capture Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk Region by May 9.
