The idea of ex-Roscosmos head Dmitry Rogozin to use a Soyuz launch vehicle to attack a Ukrainian city, about the discussion of which was previously written by the German publication BILD, shows the degradation of russian cosmonautics.
This was announced by the Defense Express web portal.
The idea itself already "shines with genius": take the Soyuz rocket, most likely the Soyuz-2.1, which is designed to launch spacecraft into orbit, install a ready-made aerial bomb on it, taking into account the discussed parameters - FAB-9000, and launch it following a ballistic trajectory over a large Ukrainian city from the Plesetsk cosmodrome in the Arkhangelsk Oblast.
That is, to use a space rocket carrier with a height of 51 meters, a launch weight of 306 tons, the launch cost of which is, according to russian declarations for 2018, USD 48.5 million, as delivery of the FAB-9000. The reasons for choosing the FAB-9000 are quite understandable, because it is the largest aerial bomb in the russian arsenal.
Equally important are the explanations of the head of the russian Progress Baranov regarding the difficulties in implementing the idea.
He says that the FAB-9000 is not designed to enter the dense layers of the atmosphere at a speed of about 6 km/s after a suborbital flight. There will be problems with heating (the temperature of the surface of space vehicles when entering the atmosphere rises to about 1,500 degrees Celsius), and also notes that it is possible that the military has a specially created ammunition for this task.
And indeed, the FAB-9000 will rather simply fall apart during entry into the atmosphere solely from the point of view of aerodynamics, and only then will there be problems with "overheating", which in theory can still be solved due to ablation protection.
Then there is the question of accuracy of guidance, which requires a separate development of a "bomb" that will be able to "drive" at truly hypersonic speeds, like a guided combat unit of an intercontinental ballistic missile. Without it, the accuracy will be "plus or minus a step" of 100-150 kilometers.
That is, to simply take and tape a ready-made aerial bomb to a rocket carrier is an idea that quite accurately characterizes the level of development of Rogozin, who managed Roscosmos for 4 years, and fully explains the level of degradation of the space industry in the russian federation.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, russia discussed the possibility of dropping on Ukraine a Soyuz launch vehicle with explosives on board.
