High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell has confirmed that the European Union could not agree on a decision to allocate EUR 500 million to Ukraine to help with weapons. European Pravda reported this with reference to the statement of Borrell following a meeting of foreign ministers of the EU countries on Monday, October 23.

Borrell said that the EU foreign ministers discussed the urgent defense needs of Ukraine and the opportunity to meet them, but could not reach a consensus.

"We have not yet managed to solve the problem of the eighth and last tranche of the European Peace Fund. We are still looking for a solution to this issue, but somehow we will find it," said Borrell.

According to him, the ministers discussed the possibility of determining a separate program for financing military assistance to Ukraine within the European Peace Fund, but are waiting for instructions after the meeting of the European Council this week.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Ukraine received the ninth tranche of EUR 1.5 billion as part of a large-scale macro-financial assistance from the EU for 2023.

On October 11, the state budget of Ukraine received a grant from the United States in the amount of USD 1.15 billion through the World Bank Multi-Donor Trust Fund.
