337 Ukrainians signed up for evacuation from the Gaza Strip, but there are much more Ukrainian citizens in this region - about half a thousand.
The Ambassador of Ukraine to Israel, Yevhen Korniychuk, announced this on Radio Svoboda.
"337 citizens of Ukraine agreed for evacuation today. And our representative in Palestine just informed that another family of six people is preparing documents. But I think that probably half a thousand of our citizens are there. Not all of them agreed to leave.
The situation is very complicated. Unfortunately, we are completely powerless here, as the embassy, to do anything to help. In addition, to form these lists, transfer them to the Israeli and Egyptian sides for agreement, and faithfully wait for the evacuation. We hope that the Rafah checkpoint will be open to foreign citizens in the next few days, maybe even tomorrow," he said.
In addition, Korniychuk informed that in addition to evacuating citizens of Ukraine, the embassy also helps to evacuate citizens of other countries from the Gaza Strip.
"We undertook to provide assistance to the Moldovans who turned to us. We already had such an experience in 2021. We then took out more than 20 citizens of Moldova. Now we are talking about 50 Bulgarians. We are coordinating with the Poles," the Ambassador said.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, as of October 14, there were 240 names of Ukrainians on the list for evacuation from the Gaza Strip. They were supposed to be taken to Egypt, but due to the difficult situation, it was not possible to do so.
Meanwhile, Israel announced a ground operation to "finally destroy Hamas."
