The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) continue to defend in the east and south of Ukraine and also advance on the Melitopol and Bakhmut Axes.
Over the past 24 hours, 90 combat clashes took place at the front, the General Staff reported in the morning briefing on October 20.
In the zone of responsibility of the North Operational and Strategic Troops Group on the Volyn and Polisskyi Axes, the operational situation remains without significant changes.
On the Siversk and Slobozhanskyi Axes, the enemy maintains a military presence in the border areas, conducts active sabotage activities, and increases the density of mine and explosive barriers.
In the area of responsibility of the Khortytsia Operational and Strategic Troops Group on the Kupiyansk Axis, Ukrainian soldiers repelled more than 30 enemy attacks in the area of Synkivka and Ivanivka settlements of the Kharkiv Region, as well as 12 attacks near Nadiya of the Luhansk Region.
On the Lyman Axis, the Defense Forces did not allow the loss of positions in the Makiivka area of the Luhansk Region.
On the Bakhmut Axis, the enemy tried to restore the lost position in the area of Klishchiyivka, Donetsk Region but was unsuccessful. At the same time, the AFU continue their assault operations south of Bakhmut in the Donetsk Region, inflict losses on the enemy in manpower and equipment, and establish themselves at the achieved boundaries.
In the area of responsibility of the Tavria Operational and Strategic Troops Group on the Avdiyivka Axis, the occupiers renewed offensive actions and did not stop trying to encircle Avdiyivka.
"Our soldiers are steadfastly holding the defense, inflicting numerous losses on the enemy. So, last day, the losses of the russians amounted to almost 900 occupiers killed and wounded, almost 50 tanks and more than 100 units of enemy armored vehicles were destroyed and damaged. Also, the enemy's offensive actions in the areas were unsuccessful Novokalynove, Stepove, and Sieverne in the Donetsk Region," the General Staff noted.
On the Mariyinka Axis, the occupiers conducted assaults with the support of aviation in the Marinka area of the Donetsk Region without success. Here, the AFU repulsed 16 attacks.
On the Shakhtarsk Axis, Ukrainian soldiers repelled enemy attacks in the Zolota Nyva and Staromayorske Regions of the Donetsk Region.
On the Zaporizhzhia Axis, the AFU did not allow the loss of positions in the area of Verbove in the Zaporizhzhia Region.
In the area of responsibility of the Odesa Operational and Strategic Troops Group on the Kherson Axis, the AFU are conducting a counter-battery fight, inflicting fire damage on the enemy's rear.
"The defense forces of Ukraine continue to conduct an offensive operation on the Melitopol Axis, inflict losses in manpower and equipment on the occupying troops, and exhaust the enemy along the entire front line," the military command emphasized.
During the day, Ukrainian aviation struck the russian command post, 13 strikes on areas where the enemy's personnel, weapons, and military equipment were concentrated, and four more - on anti-aircraft missile complexes. Four reconnaissance UAVs of the operational-tactical level were also destroyed.
Units of the missile forces hit the command post, two areas of concentration of personnel, weapons, and military equipment, two heavy flame-throwing systems of salvo fire TOS-1A Solntsepiok and 13 artillery pieces of the occupiers.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces General, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, visited the positions of the Ukrainian military in the Avdiyivka area and on the Kupiyansk Axis.
