The United States on Tuesday plans to announce a new military assistance package for Ukraine worth up to USD 400 million. This is reported by Reuters.
According to the publication, which refers to American officials, the package will consist mainly of artillery, air defense missiles and ground equipment. At the same time, cluster munitions that the United States recently sent to Ukraine for the first time will not be included in this package.
The package will include several Stryker armored personnel carriers, mine clearance equipment, munitions for National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems (NASAMS), munitions for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), anti-tank weapons including TOW and Javelin and munitions for Patriot and Stinger anti-aircraft systems, according to the officials.
The package is still being formed, so its specification may change.
The aid will be funded under the Presidential Drawdown Authority, or PDA, which authorizes the president to transfer equipment from excess U.S. inventory without congressional approval during an emergency.
The upcoming military aid package will be the 43rd approved by the United States for Ukraine since the Russian invasion in February 2022, totaling more than USD 41 billion.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on July 19, the United States officially announced an additional USD 1.3 billion for a new defense assistance package for Ukraine, which contains, in particular, NASAMS air defense systems and ammunition, artillery shells, as well as UAV countermeasures.
