Zelenskyy suggests Rada extend martial law and mobilization until August 18

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has suggested that the Verkhovna Rada extend the period of martial law and general mobilization from May 20 for 90 days, i.e. until August 18.

This follows from bills 9259 and 9260 registered in the Rada on May 1, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

Bill 9259 provides for the approval of Presidential Decree 254 dated May 1 On Extending Martial Law In Ukraine, according to which the period of martial law is extended from 5:30 a.m. on May 20, 2023 for 90 days.

Bill 9260 provides for the approval of Presidential Decree 255 dated May 1 On Extension Of General Mobilization, according to which the period of general mobilization is extended from May 20 for 90 days.

In the explanatory note to both bills, it is emphasized that their adoption will contribute to the adoption of adequate measures aimed at repelling Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on February 7, the Verkhovna Rada extended the period of martial law and general mobilization from February 19 for 90 days, i.e. until May 20, 2023.

On February 24, 2022, the Council approved the introduction of martial law by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in connection with the start of the war by Russia and the announcement and conduct of general mobilization.
