Deficit Of Current Account Of Balance Of Payments Makes USD 216 Million In February

In February, the current account deficit of the balance of payments was USD 216 million (in February 2022, the surplus was USD 4 million).

This is stated in the message of the NBU, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The significant expansion of the negative balance of trade in goods and services, including due to the significant expenses of Ukrainian citizens abroad, was largely compensated by the growth of secondary income (thanks to the receipt of a grant from international partners) and the reduction of payments for investment income.

In two months of 2023, the current account deficit was USD 1.0 billion (in January-February 2022, the surplus was USD 0.6 billion).

Excluding reinvested income and grants from international partners, the deficit was USD 3.2 billion (for two months of 2022, the surplus was USD 0.9 billion).

The export of goods decreased by 35.9% (in January - by 46.8%), their import decreased by 14.5% (in January - by 12.9%).

Compared to the previous month, the export of goods increased by 5.3%, and their import decreased by 2.0%.

The volume of export of goods amounted to USD 3.1 billion.

Exports of ferrous and non-ferrous metals decreased the most - by 72.3% (compared to January 2023 - by 5.6%).

The volume of import of goods amounted to USD 5.1 billion.

Energy imports decreased by 26.3% (to January - by 25.4%), non-energy imports - by 10.5% (to January grew by 7.2%).

The deficit of the consolidated balance of payments amounted to USD 722 million (in February 2022 - USD 1.5 billion).

Repayment of the debt to the IMF amounted to USD 134 million.

As of March 1, 2023, the volume of international reserves amounted to USD 28.9 billion, which provides financing of imports for the future period for 3.7 months.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the balance of payments current account surplus in 2022 was USD 8.6 billion (5.8% of GDP) compared to a deficit of USD 3.9 billion (1.9% of GDP) in 2021.

In general, for 2022, the consolidated balance of payments was formed with a deficit of USD 2.9 billion (in 2021, the surplus was USD 487 million).
