Farmers Sow 0.5 Million Hectares Of Grain

As of March 30, agricultural enterprises sowed 500,000 hectares of grain and leguminous crops for the 2023 harvest.

This is stated in the message of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

In particular, 107,700 hectares of spring wheat, 307,400 hectares of spring barley, 57,700 hectares of peas, and 26,400 hectares of oats were sown.

It is noted that the farmers of the Ternopil Region - 94,700 hectares, Vinnytsia Region - 74,300 hectares, and Khmelnytskyi Region - 60,800 hectares planted the most grain and leguminous crops.

A total of 207,000 hectares of grain and leguminous crops were sown last week.

Farmers of the Vinnytsia, Volyn, Rivne, Ternopil, Khmelnytskyi and Cherkasy Regions have started planting sugar beets.

Farmers of the Odesa, Khmelnytskyi Regions and Bukovyna started sowing sunflower seeds.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food Forecasts a decrease in the harvest of grain and leguminous crops by 16.6% or 8.8 million tons to 44.3 million tons in 2023 compared to 2022.

At the same time, the gross production of oil crops is expected to increase to 19.2 million tons against 18.2 million tons the previous year.
