On March 1, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) repelled more than 170 enemy attacks in five directions.
This follows from a statement by the General Staff of the AFU posted on Facebook.
The main efforts of the enemy are concentrated on conducting offensive actions in the Kupiyansk, Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiyivka, and Shakhtarsk directions. Last day, our defenders repelled more than 170 enemy attacks in the indicated directions.
The Russian occupiers launched 14 rocket attacks on civilian objects in Kharkiv Region; Poltava Region; and Donetsk Region. There are wounded civilians, and high-rise apartment buildings and private houses were damaged. The invaders also carried out 21 airstrikes, including two Shahed-136 UAVs. Strike drones were shot down. The enemy conducted 58 attacks using MLRSes.
The level of the threat of missile strikes by the Russian occupiers is very high throughout the territory of Ukraine.
No formations of enemy offensive groups were detected in the Volyn, Polisskyi, Siversk, and Slobozhanskyi directions. During the day, the enemy shelled the settlements of Yeline and Baranivka of the Chernihiv Region; Rozhkovychi, Starykove, Hirky, Atynske, Stukalivka, Budky, Volfyne, Turiya, and Hrabovske in the Sumy Region; and Chervona Zoria, Veterynarne, Strelecha, Krasne, Ternova, Okhrimivka, Potykhonove, Dvorichna, and Kindrashivka in the Kharkiv Region. It used an unmanned aerial vehicle with a combat load near Budarky, Kharkiv Region.
According to the General Staff, in the border areas of the Belgorod Oblast, Russia; the enemy continues to engineer the terrain, and install anti-tank barriers.
In the Kupiyansk, and Lyman directions, the enemy carried out offensive actions in the areas of the settlements of Kreminna and Bilohorivka in the Luhansk Region; and Spirne in the Donetsk Region; without success. The enemy carried out artillery shelling of the areas of Masiutivka, Lyman Pershyi, Kupiyansk, and Kyslivka settlements in the Kharkiv Region; Kuzemivka, Makiyivka, Kreminna, Bilohorivka, Dibrova in the Luhansk Region; and Zvanivka in the Donetsk Region.
In the direction of Bakhmut, the enemy continues to advance, storming the city of Bakhmut. Ukrainian defenders repelled attacks in the areas of Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Dubovo-Vasylivka, Bakhmut, and Ivanivske settlements. Bondarne, Zaliznianske, Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Dubovo-Vasylivka, Bakhmut, Ivanivske, Klishchiyivka, Chasiv Yar, and Niu York in the Donetsk Region came under enemy fire.
In the Avdiyivka and Shakhtarsk directions, the enemy carried out unsuccessful offensive actions in the direction of the settlements of Kamiyanka, Pivnichne, Vodiane, Nevelske, and Mariyinka, and shelled the areas of the settlements of Avdiyivka, Lastochkyne, Berdychi, Vodiane, Krasnohorivka, Mariyinka, Heorhiyivka, Bohoyavlenka, Velyka Novosilka, and Neskuchne in the Donetsk Region.
In the Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson directions, the enemy is defending, and in some areas, it is trying to create conditions for the transition to the offensive. The enemy carried out artillery fire on more than 45 districts of populated areas. Among them are Mala Tokmachka and Novoandriyivka of the Zaporizhzhia Region; as well as Dobra Nadiya, Nikopol, Zmiyivka, Kozatske, Novosilka, Inzhenerne, Bilozerka, Dniprovske, and the city of Kherson.
Over the past 24 hours, Ukrainian aviation has carried out 16 strikes on the areas of concentration of personnel, and military equipment of the occupiers. Ukrainian defenders also shot down an enemy unmanned aerial vehicle of the Orlan-10 type.
In addition, units of missile forces, and artillery hit one enemy concentration area, two ammunition depots, and three other important enemy objects.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on March 1, The New York Times published an article devoted to the three-week battle near Vuhledar, Donetsk Region. The publication called the battle the biggest tank battle of this war, in which Russia suffered a crushing defeat.
During the fighting in the area of Vuhledar; units of the AFU Defense Forces of Ukraine defeated an elite brigade of Russian marines.
