The energy generating company Ukrhydroenergo has lost 1,500 MW of power due to the war.
This follows from a statement by the company, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"After the occupation of the Kakhovka HEPP in the first days of the full-scale invasion, we lost more than 340 MW of available power. After a series of massive missile attacks on our facilities, which the enemy carried out starting in October 2022, we suffered much greater losses. I must say that on today, the total losses of the company's installed capacity amount to almost 1,500 MW, which, in turn, has led to a noticeable decrease in the participation of hydroelectric power plants in covering the peak part of the daily capacity schedule of the United Power Grid of Ukraine, as well as limiting the possibilities of frequency and power regulation," said General Director of Ukrhydroenergo Ihor Syrota.
He noted that losses from Russian aggression amounted to tens of billions of hryvnias.
"We will be able to calculate the final losses after the de-occupation of our facilities and conducting the appropriate audit, however, we can already say with confidence that we are talking about tens of billions of hryvnias. The company has already filed a lawsuit with the European Court of Human Rights against the Russian Federation regarding compensation for the damages caused in as a result of unprovoked military aggression," Syrota said.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in September, Ukrhydroenergo filed a lawsuit against Russia with the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) regarding the compensation of UAH 17 billion in damages.
Ukrhydroenergo includes Kyiv HEPP, Kyiv HEPP, Kaniv HEPP, Kremenchuk HEPP, Seredniodniprovska HEPP, Dnipro HEPP, Dniester HEPP, Dnipro HEPP, and Kakhovka HEPP, with a total installed capacity of 5.745 GW.
100% of the shares of Ukrhydroenergo belong to the state and are managed by the Ministry of Energy.
