Rada Appoints Klymenko As Head Interior Ministry

The Verkhovna Rada appointed Acting Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko as the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. This was announced by Yaroslav Zhelezniak, a member of the Verkhovna Rada from the Holos faction, in his Telegram channel, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"The Verkhovna Rada appointed I.V. Klymenko to the post of Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. Mr. Klymenko was represented by the Prime Minister," he wrote.

321 MPs voted for the relevant resolution.

The Servant of the People faction cast 224 votes, European Solidarity - 0, Batkivshchyna - 18, Platform for Life and Peace - 18, For the Future - 13, Holos - 1, Dovira - 13 , Restoration of Ukraine - 17, non-factional - 17.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on January 18, the Cabinet of Ministers appointed the head of the National Police, Ihor Klymenko, as deputy minister of internal affairs and entrusted him with the duties of the minister, after the death of the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Denys Monastyrskyi, as a result of a helicopter crash.

50-year-old Klymenko has been the head of the National Police since September 2019. On January 20, the Cabinet of Ministers temporarily removed acting Minister of Internal Affairs Klymenko from the duties of the head of the National Police, and assigned the duties of the head of the National Police to the head of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Kyiv, Ivan Vyhivskyi.
