Significant Deficit. Ukrenergo Tells About Situation In Ukrainian Energy System

Due to the warm weather, electricity consumption on Thursday, January 19 is forecast to be slightly lower than the day before. But the power deficit in the energy system remains significant, consumption limits for the whole day have been established for all regional power distribution companies.

This was announced by Ukrenergo.

The company emphasized that electricity consumption on Thursday is forecast to be slightly lower than on Wednesday due to warm weather. But the power deficit in the energy system remains significant, especially in the evening peak, when generation can cover only ¾ of consumption.

Ukrenergo reminds that the reason for the shortage is that power plants (generating capacities) and the high-voltage network were damaged as a result of Russian missile and drone attacks. The last Russian attack on January 14 caused significant damage to several power units of thermal power plants.

At the same time, consumption limits for the whole day have been established for all regional power distribution companies.

Ukrenergo noted that each regional power distribution company in its region draws up schedules of planned hourly outages, which should ensure consumption of the region at the level of the set limit.

Exceeding the limits leads to risks of emergency situations in the power system. Therefore, emergency power outages are used to prevent them.

"Yesterday, Ukrenergo completed the repair of an autotransformer at one of the substations in the Dnipro region. They also restored the once again damaged power transmission line that connects the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant to the Ukrainian power system, providing it with power, preventing an accident.

"Ukrenergo, electricity producers and regional power distribution companies are constantly working to restore damaged facilities affected by enemy attacks. However, after each subsequent attack by the Russians on the energy infrastructure, recovery becomes increasingly difficult and takes longer," the report said.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on January 15, the press service of the Ukrenergo company stated that the terms of power outages may become longer due to the latest massive Russian missile attack and an increase in the electricity deficit.

Also, on January 15, DTEK urged Ukrainians to prepare for "difficult days" due to damage to the energy infrastructure and reduction in generation due to a massive missile attack on January 14.

Meanwhile, the Kyiv Region is returning to stabilization schedules of electricity power outages.
