Surplus Of Current Account Of Balance Of Payments In November Makes USD 227 Million

The surplus of the current account of balance of payments in November 2022 amounted to USD 227 million (in November 2021, the deficit was USD 1 billion).

This is evidenced by the NBU data, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The surplus was formed through receiving grants from international partners and due to a reduction in investment income payments.

At the same time, the negative balance of trade in goods and services has significantly expanded, including at the expense of significant expenses of citizens of Ukraine who are abroad.

In January-November 2022, the current account surplus amounted to USD 8.5 billion (in January-November 2021, the deficit amounted to USD 2.8 billion).

Excluding reinvested revenues and grants from international partners, the deficit amounted to USD 3.2 billion (for the 11 months of 2021, the surplus made USD 3.3 billion).

Exports of goods in November decreased by 43.0% (in October - by 38.6%), and their imports decreased by 27.7% (in October - by 25.9%).

Compared to the previous month, exports of goods decreased by 0.5%, while their imports increased by 12.6%.

Exports of goods amounted to USD 3.6 billion.

Exports of ferrous and non-ferrous metals decreased the most - by 75.4% (compared with October 2022, by 0.5%).

The volume of imports of goods amounted to USD 5.4 billion.

Energy imports decreased by 40.3% (compared with October increased by 21.5%).

Non-energy imports fell by 23.7% (over October increased by 10.6%).

The consolidated balance of payments surplus was USD 2.4 million (in November 2021 - USD 377 million).

As of December 1, 2022, the volume of international reserves amounted to USD 28.0 billion, which provides financing for imports of the future period for 3.5 months.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in 2021, the deficit of the current account of balance of payments made USD 2.1 billion (1.1% of the GDP) over the surplus of USD 5.3 billion (3.4% of the GDP) in 2020.

The surplus of the current account of balance of payments in 2020 made USD 6.6 billion (4.1% of the gross domestic product) over the deficit of USD 4.1 billion (2.7% of the GDP) year over year.
