British Prime Minister Liz Truss has announced her intention to resign after 6 weeks in office. This was reported by European Pravda.

She said she came into office at a time of great economic instability and was elected with a mandate for change, but she said, she recognized that she cannot deliver the mandate.

"I came into office at a time of great economic and international instability. Families and businesses were worried about how to pay their bills, Putin's illegal war in Ukraine threatens the security of our whole continent and our country has been held back for too long by low economic growth,” she said.

Truss added that she was elected "with a mandate to change that" and her government succeeded in reducing citizens' bills.

"I recognise though, given the situation, I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative Party. I have therefore spoken to His Majesty the King to notify him that I am resigning as leader of the Conservative Party,” Truss admitted.

There will be a Conservative leadership election, she said, which must "be completed within the next week." Truss said "this will ensure that we remain on a path to deliver our fiscal plans and maintain our country's economic stability and national security.”

She will remain as prime minister until a successor is elected.

It is noted that the announcement of the resignation was made on the 45th day of Liz Truss's tenure as prime minister.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Boris Johnson resigned on July 7, but promised to support Ukraine even after the resignation.

On July 20, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, during the last in office, gave advice to his successor.
