Ukraine's air defense units and aviation have reached a level of effectiveness where 50 to 70% of Russian missiles are shot down.
That follows from a statement by Head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Mykola Zhyrnov, in an interview for Army Inform, the Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"The analysis of Russian air and missile strikes shows that from 50 to 70% of enemy missiles are shot down by air defense means, both by aviation and by anti-aircraft missile units. But, unfortunately, today we cannot ensure 100% effectiveness of air defense actions, this is due to objective the reasons are the insufficient number of reconnaissance means, aviation and anti-aircraft missile systems," he said.
According to him, these are mainly Soviet systems, which do not have the same efficiency and reliability as the air defense systems of NATO partner countries.
Zhyrnov emphasized that as long as the enemy has missile and aviation weapons, there will still be a threat of missile and airstrikes on Ukraine.
Currently, he said, the enemy cannot use its air weapons with impunity, nor can it ensure the effectiveness of its missile strikes.
Zhyrnov added that this became possible thanks to the work of the air defense system, and the heroism, and the professionalism of Ukrainian servicemen.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Armed Forces of Ukraine used air defense and shot down a Russian missile in the Kryvyi Rih area (Dnipropetrovsk region).
Due to the lack of high-precision weapons, the enemy began to use outdated S-300 anti-aircraft-guided missiles more often. The occupiers launched more than 500 such rockets across Ukraine.
