Total State Debt Up 3.6% To USD 101.4 Billion In May

The overall state (direct and state-secured) debt of Ukraine in May increased by 3.6% or USD 3.72 billion over April to USD 101.44 billion.

The Ministry of Finance of Ukraine has said this in a statement, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

Public and state-guaranteed debt as of late May amounted to UAH 2,967.49 billion or USD 101.44 billion against UAH 2,855.75 billion or USD 97.62 billion, a month earlier.

The total amount of direct public debt as of May 31 amounted to UAH 2,645.84 billion (USD 90.44 billion) against UAH 2,556.36 billion (USD 87.38 billion) a month earlier.

At the same time, direct external debt increased from USD 49.91 billion to USD 51.23 billion over the month.

Direct domestic debt increased in hryvnia equivalent from UAH 1,096.37 billion to UAH 1,146.94 billion (in dollar terms it increased from USD 37.48 billion to USD 39.21 billion).

As of May 31, the government-guaranteed debt amounted to UAH 321.65 billion or USD 10.99 billion.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in 2021, the public debt increased by 8.52% or USD 7.69 billion to USD 97.95 billion.

In 2020, the total public debt increased by 6.9% from USD 84.4 billion to USD 90.3 billion.

In 2019, the state and state-guaranteed debt increased by USD 6.05 billion, and decreased by UAH 170 billion in hryvnia equivalent.

The World Bank published a report in which it said that the war in Ukraine will cause a “historical” jump in food prices and energy, which will remain high until the end of 2024.
