British intelligence claims that over the past 48 hours, Russia has stepped up efforts to move south of Izium.
This is stated in the intelligence update of the British Ministry of Defense.
It is reported that the fighting continues in Sievierodonetsk. "But, in the last 48 hours, Russia's Eastern Group of Forces (EGF) have also likely increased their efforts to advance to the south of Izium," the update said.
British intelligence recalls that Russia's progress on the Izium axis had remained stalled since April, after Ukrainian forces made good use of the terrain to slow down the advance of Russian forces.
It is noted that Russia probably tried to reconstitute the Eastern Group of Forces after it suffered very large casualties in the failed advance on Kyiv, but its units likely remain understrength.
"Russia likely seeks to regain momentum in this area in order to put further pressure on Sievierodonetsk, and to give it the option of advancing deeper into the Donetsk Oblast," the update said.
Recall, Serhii Haidai, the head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration, said that there was no threat of the encirclement of the Ukrainian military, despite the concentration of huge forces and equipment by the invaders in this direction.
Meanwhile, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that in Sievierodonetsk, Luhansk region, where the fiercest battles since the beginning of the Russian invasion are now taking place, the fate of the entire Donbas is being decided.
