The Council of the European Union has decided to increase funding for military assistance to Ukraine by EUR 500 million to EUR 2 billion under the European Peace Fund (EPF).

The press service of the EU Council has said this in a statement, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

“After having adopted three tranches of support totalling 1.5 billion this year, a fourth tranche will add €500 million to the resources already mobilised under the EPF for Ukraine, thereby bringing the total amount to €2 billion,” the statement said.

EU High Representative Josep Borrell noted that the history of tomorrow is being written today, on the battlefields of Ukraine. With these EUR 500 million, the EU has allocated a total EUR 2 of billion to support EU member states’ supplies of military equipment to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

He added that this support is just one part of European efforts to help Ukraine defend itself. The EU and its member states are determined to continue the support.

Of the new tranche, EUR 490 million will be directed to military equipment intended for defense, EUR 10 million - to cover the costs of providing equipment, as well as personal protective equipment, first aid kits and fuel.

Previous tranches were approved on February 28, March 23 and April 13.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the European Commission intends to provide Ukraine with new macro-financial assistance for EUR 9 billion in 2022.
