Ukraine Lost Possibility Of Gas Transit Through GMS Sokhranivka - GTS Operator Of Ukraine

Ukraine has lost the possibility of gas transit through the gas measuring station (GMS) Sokhranivka.

Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine (GTS Operator of Ukraine) LLC has said this in a statement, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

“The GTS Operator of Ukraine informs about the occurrence of force majeure circumstances that make it impossible to further transportation of gas through the Sokhranivka GMS and the Novopskov border compressor station (CS) located in the occupied territory. The Novopskov CS is the first of the compressor stations of the Ukrainian GTS in Luhansk region, through which almost a third of the gas (up to 32.6 million cubic meters per day) is transited from Russia to Europe. Currently, the GTS Operator of Ukraine cannot exercise operational and technological control over the Novopskov CS and other assets located in these territories," the statement says.

It is also noted that the interference of the occupational forces in the technological processes, the change in the operating modes of the GTS facilities, including unauthorized gas withdrawals from the transit flow, jeopardized the stability and security of the entire Ukrainian gas transportation system.

According to the statement, these actions, according to the current transit contract, are force majeure circumstances, excluding the fulfillment of obligations at the junction point of the Sokhranivka GMS, as well as the Novopskov border compressor station, which are not controlled by the GTS Operator of Ukraine.

"The GTS Operator of Ukraine informs that from 07:00 a.m. on May 11, 2022, gas will not be accepted into the GTS of Ukraine at the physical connection point Sokhranivka. In order to fulfill transit obligations to European partners in full and in accordance with the terms of the agreement, it is possible to temporarily transfer inaccessible capacities from the Sokhranivka physical point to the Sudzha physical connection point, which is located on the territory controlled by Ukraine. The company has repeatedly reported to the Gazprom PJSC about the threats to transit due to the actions of the occupational forces controlled by Russia, and demanded to stop interference in the operation of the facilities, but these appeals were ignored," the statement says.

As Ukrainian News Agency reported, in 2021, Ukraine reduced gas transit through its gas transmission system to Europe by 25.4% to 41.6 billion cubic meters compared to 2020, gas transportation from Europe to Ukraine - 6 times to 2.6 billion cubic meters.
