Former Deputy Chairman of the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) Viktor Yahun (2014-2015) believes that Russia plans to end hostilities in Ukraine by Victory Day, May 9.
He said this on the air of the national telethon, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
“Kyiv remains the target it was. They need Kyiv to assert their victory... The extreme point they are counting on that hostilities must be completed is before May 9, because they must have a victory parade. What kind of victory - it is not clear to me yet, I am already beginning to be convinced that it can be ours, but these are their personal problems. They should hold some kind of parade in May, if they cannot in Kyiv, then in Moscow. What kind of parade it will be - we'll see," Yahun said.
He noted that Russia still sets one of its tasks to capture Kyiv in order to eliminate the central government in Ukraine.
Yahun considers this one of the biggest mistakes of the Russian government, which is convinced that by eliminating the leadership of Ukraine, they will undermine the resistance of the Ukrainian people, not realizing that there is no "king-father" in Ukraine and that each region, each settlement is a combat unit in itself, providing fierce resistance to the invaders.
The ex-Deputy Chairman of the SSU also noted that no one is going to surrender Kyiv and the capital is now a powerful fortress, which Russian troops cannot take.
At that, he noted that the Russian army continues to hold its troops near Kyiv, trying to strengthen and replenish them.
Yahun predicts that in the near future everyone will be able to see not just the destruction of the enemy, but real salients (complete encirclement) for Russian troops near Kyiv.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Advisor to the Head of the Office of the President Oleksii Arestovych predicts the cessation of active hostilities by Russian troops in Ukraine no later than in two-three weeks (until mid-April).
