President Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that without his meeting with Putin, it is impossible to understand what Russia is ready for.
He said this in an interview with journalists, which is broadcast as a telethon, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"I believe that without this meeting (with Putin) in any format, you will not really understand to the end what they are ready to do to stop the war, and what they are ready for if we are not ready for certain compromises," he said.
According to him, we should understand whether Russia wants to stop the war at all.
"First of all, to find a format in which to have an understanding in general whether Russia wants to stop the war. After all, we may not even get to everything else. Or, in principle, does it want and is able to do this," he said.
The President stressed that "we are for peace, because no matter how difficult it is, it is better than war," but there should be a dialogue, not ultimatums.
According to him, in order to find some way out on the Crimea and Donbas, it is needed to first take the first step - guaranteeing security and ending the war.
"At the first meeting with the President of Russia, I am ready to raise these issues, on Crimea and Donbas, they are relevant, they are important for us - about the occupied territories. But I am sure that this decision will not be made at this meeting. Because, to be completely frank, in matters of guaranteeing security, we will talk about constitutional changes, changes in Ukrainian legislation, and if we talk about this, it will in any case be decided not only by the President. This rather long process will be decided by both the Rada and the people of Ukraine," Zelenskyy said.
As Ukrainian News Agency reported, Zelenskyy considers it possible to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Jerusalem (Israel).
