Rada Asking European Commission And European Parliament To Speed Up Ukraine's Accession To EU

The Verkhovna Rada is asking the European Commission and the European Parliament to speed up Ukraine's accession to the European Union.

This is stated in the appeal of the Verkhovna Rada, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"We kindly ask you to facilitate the rapid receipt of a positive opinion of the European Commission on granting Ukraine candidate status as an initial step towards an accelerated passage of the procedure for obtaining full membership in the European Union, which will pave the way for the decision of the Council of Europe to start preliminary negotiations with Ukraine," the statement says.

Among the signatories of the appeal: the leadership of the Verkhovna Rada and parliamentary factions (groups).

The document also emphasized that the decision on the immediate entry of Ukraine into the EU will be a key factor in deterring Russian aggression and rewarding the Ukrainian people in their struggle for freedom, democracy and European values.

The appeal is addressed to President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola.

As Ukrainian News Agency reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the conclusion of the European Commission on Ukraine's application for membership in the European Union would be prepared within a few months.
