The Ukrainian weekly socio-political magazine NV, together with the British edition of The Economist, has prepared already the 5th special issue of “The world ahead”. It is traditionally published at the end of the year with the forecasts for the coming year from recognized experts both in Ukraine and abroad.
There are 220 pages in the special issue. High-quality analysis with forecasts for 2022 is divided into 2 parts – global analysis with forecasts of experts from The Economist, and Ukrainian with author's columns of opinion leaders, representatives of big business, top officials, economists, historians, diplomats, etc.
“For the first time ever this issue, which is now called “The world ahead” will be released in Ukrainian (“Svit poperedu”). We and our British colleagues have brought together leaders of states and large companies in it to discuss what the global economy, the world of culture and technology will look like next year. Among them is the President of Ukraine, whose column opens up the Ukrainian part of this project,” said NV’s editor-in-chief Vitalii Sych.
According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, 2022 will be a decisive year for Ukraine. According to him, the future life of the country depends on the success in 2022 in vaccination against COVID-19 and the continuation of many reforms. “Societies that lag behind in vaccination will also lag behind in economic development,” Zelensky declared.
The former US ambassador to Ukraine, William Taylor, on the other hand, emphasized that the first task is to deter another Russian invasion. “The Ukrainian people are united in the fight against Russia as never before,” the diplomat is sure.
Politics has not been the only topic. The authors of the columns covered various topics: healthcare, space exploration, tourism, and the film industry. A lot of attention has been paid to technologies and innovations, as the future belongs to them.
“The Ukrainian IT sector has a huge potential for development. Ukraine can become the largest IT hub in Eastern Europe, where products that will change the world will be created,” Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov is sure.
Innovations will feed the next generations of Ukrainians, considers the Executive Chairman of Darnitsa Group Dmytro Shymkiv. According to him, trained personnel, world-class projects, leading financial services, gradual digitalization of industry, together with healthy workaholism, give the country a chance to finally stop depending on soil fertility.
“Fueled by innovations, the efficiency of traditional industries is growing. I will refer to the close to me pharmaceutical industry, which is fighting for the right to supply inexpensive medicines to the European Union. On the top of that, Ukraine is ready to create an anti-coronavirus hub that will be able to provide the entire region with vaccines and drugs against Covid in the future,” Dmytro Shymkiv wrote.
Coronavirus was one of the leading topics also in the British part of the special project. Its authors additionally touched upon the global energy crisis, the confrontation between the United States and China, the political situation in the United States and its impact on the world.
“The country will remain a great power for many years, but just how influential it will be depends on its ability to fix its internal problems, rather than its foreign policy,” said the famous American philosopher, political economist and publicist, as well as a Senior Fellow at Stanford University Francis Fukuyama.
It should be noted that during all the years of the existence of this special NV project, its main partner has been the pharmaceutical company Darnitsa, the Ukrainian leader in the production of drugs in kind.
