Investigators of the Main Investigation Department of the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) opened criminal proceedings on the fact of leakage of information about the operation of the special services related to the organization of the detention of militants of the Wagner PMC on the territory of Ukraine.

Ukrainian News Agency learned this from the State Bureau of Investigation.

"On November 18, 2021, documents, containing information on the planning and implementation by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the Security Service of Ukraine of measures related to the organization of the detention of Wagner PMC militants on the territory of Ukraine, were published on the Internet. Within the framework of open criminal proceedings, the authenticity of these documents will be verified, and the military personnel who had access to these documents and may be involved in their leakage will be identified," the SBI said.

Proceedings are open under Part 1 of Article 328 (disclosure of information constituting a state secret by the person to whom this information was entrusted or became known in connection with the performance of official duties, in the absence of signs of high treason or espionage) of the Criminal Code.

The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of two to five years with or without the deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of up to three years.

According to Ukrainian News Agency sources in law enforcement agencies, there are no complaints against journalist Yanina Sokolova.

Earlier, Sokolova released documents on the operation to detain the Wagner militants.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova states that the State Bureau of Investigation will study the report of the Bellingcat international expert journalist group on the case of the Wagner militants.

Earlier, the head of the provisional investigatory commission to investigate an allaged disruption by officials of the operation to detain members of the Wagner PMC, Maryana Bezuhla, said that the commission had not been able to establish which of the Ukrainian officials decided to postpone the special operation to detain the Wagner militants.
