Stepanov Signs Order On Registration Of AstraZeneca Vaccine In Ukraine

Health Minister, Maksym Stepanov, has signed an order on registration in Ukraine of the AstraZeneca vaccine produced by South Korea.

The minister has written this on Facebook, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

He also noted that on April 22, Ukraine is expecting a delivery of 367,000 doses of the vaccine.

A part of the vaccines will be sent for vaccination of people with the second dose.

According to Stepanov, the AstraZeneca and CoviShield vaccine are identical.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Deputy Health Minister / Senior Medical Officer, Viktor Liashko, said Ukraine expected to obtain 367,000 doses of AstraZeneca on April 22.

At the same time, Ukraine is expecting 1.4 million doses of AstraZeneca before June.

On April 20, the number of newly-registered Covid-19 cases in Ukraine rose by 12,162 over April 19 to 1,974,118, and the number of deaths increased by 429 over April 19 to 40,796; at the same time, the number of new cases rose by 36%, and the number of new lethal cases rose by 16.9%.

According to the report, as of the morning of April 21, a total of 1,974,118 laboratory-confirmed Covid-19 cases were registered in Ukraine; the number included 40,796 fatal cases; 1,514,472 people had recovered.

On April 20, a total of 12,162 new disease cases were recorded, 429 people died, and 14,720 people recovered.

Therefore, as of April 20, the number of newly-infected people was lower than that of those who recovered (14,720 vs 12,162).

The number of coronavirus-infected people as of the morning of April 21 was 418,850, down 0.7% over April 20.

Since the start of the epidemic, the largest number of coronavirus-infected people has been registered in the city of Kyiv (187,196), Odesa region (128,288), and Kharkiv region (127,803).
