Stepanov Calling On Ukrainians To Demand Covid-19 Tests Having Any ARVI Symptoms

Health Minister, Maksym Stepanov, is calling on the Ukrainian citizens to demand Covid-19 testing in case of any symptoms of acute respiratory viral infection.

The minister has said this at a briefing, the Ukrainian News Agency reports.

Should a doctor refuse to conduct such a test, Stepanov recommends calling the Health Ministry 0-800-60-20-19.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on January 4, a total of 24,154 polymerase chain reaction tests (PCR) were conducted, up 2.2 times over January 3; and the number of enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) rose 7.2 times over January 3 to 15,132.

Since the start of the year, a total of 5,645,178 polymerase chain reaction tests have been conducted.

On January 3, a total of 13,128 tests for coronavirus infection were conducted, including 11,021 polymerase chain reaction tests (PCR), down 10.8% over January 2; and the number of enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) decreased by 4.8% over January 2 to 2,107.

On January 4, the number of newly-registered Covid-19 cases in Ukraine rose by 5,334 over January 3 to 1,083,585, and the number of deaths increased by 202 over January 3 to 19,129; at the same time, the number of new cases rose by 28.3%, and the number of new lethal cases rose 2.7 times.

According to the report, as at the morning of January 5, there were 1,083,585 laboratory-confirmed Covid-19 cases registered in Ukraine, the number included 19,129 lethal cases; besides, 747,408 people had recovered.

On January 4, a total of 5,334 new cases of the disease were recorded, 202 people died, and 13,850 people recovered.

Therefore, as at January 4, the indicator of newly-infected people was lower than the number of those, who recovered (5,334 vs 13,850).

As at the morning of January 5, the overall number of those, who are staying ill with the Covid-19 (less the recovered and died) made 317,048, down 2.7% over January 4.

Since the start of the epidemic, the largest number of coronavirus-infected people has been registered in the city of Kyiv (114,369), Odesa region (73,282), and Kharkiv region (70,656).
