Defense Ministry: 82% Of Defense Ministry's Staff Are Civilians

The Defense Ministry of Ukraine says 82% of employees of the ministry's staff are civilians.

Oleh Melikhov, the director of the military policy department of the Defense Ministry, said this at a news briefing, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

He notes that the proportion meets the requirements of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

According to him, only civilians will occupy the posts of deputy defense minister by the end of 2018 in compliance with the law on national defense.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in October 2018, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko dismissed Defence Minister Stepan Poltorak from military service.

Poltorak heads the Defense Ministry as a civilian.
