Verkhovna Rada, CEC, members

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has raised the number of members of the Central Election Commission from 15 to 17.

A total of 236 parliamentary members backed respective bill 9090, when 226 votes enough to pass the decision, the Ukrainian News Agency reports.

Respective amendments were introduced into Article 6 of the Law of Ukraine On Central Election Commission.

In compliance with the explanatory note, the bill aims to ensure the number of CEC members in compliance with the resolution of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) that demands proportional representation of the parliamentary factions in the CEC.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in February, President Petro Poroshenko tabled recommendation on appointment of CEC members for consideration of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
