The State Fiscal Service has imposed personal fines totaling UAH 8.3 billion on the Naftogaz of Ukraine national energy company's Board Chairman Andrii Kobolev for violating the procedure for customs clearance of gas purchased from the Gazprom gas company (Russia). Kobolev announced this on his Facebook page, the Ukrainian News Agency reports. "Here is the congratulation that I received from the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine today on our victory in Stockholm: two personal fines of UAH 7 billion and UAH 1.3 billion. That is, I (personally) must pay UAH 8.3 billion with 15 days," he wrote. The State Fiscal Service's reason for imposing the fines is that Kobolev failed to ensure the filing an additional customs declaration with the full package of accompanying documents. "The real reason is Naftogaz's refusal to process and pay for the natural gas that Gazprom smuggled into the temporarily occupied territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. This is why we have still not been able to provide the entire package of documents. We will not pay for the gas that we did not order or consume, as Gazprom is insisting," Kobolev wrote. As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (Sweden) ruled on December 22, 2017, that Naftogaz of Ukraine should not pay for the natural gas that Gazprom supplies to the non-government-controlled areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Gazprom has said that it delivered 2.4 billion cubic meters of gas to the non-government-controlled areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions in 2017.
