Rada Adopts Poroshenko's Bill On Anticorruption Court In Principle

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has adopted the bill submitted by President Petro Poroshenko on establishment of the Higher Anticorruption Court.

A total of 282 parliamentary members backed respective bill No. 7440, when 226 votes enough to pass the decision, the Ukrainian News Agency reports.

In particular, the bill was backed by 101 of 136 members of the Ukrainian Parliament of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc parliamentary faction, 67 of 81 MPs from the People's Front parliamentary faction, two of 43 MPs from the Opposition bloc parliamentary faction, 22 of 25 MPs from the Samopomich Association parliamentary faction, 14 of 21 MPs from the faction of the Radical Party of Oleh Liashko and 19 of 20 MPs from the Batkivschyna All-Ukrainian Association parliamentary faction.

A total of eight of 18 MPs from the Will of People parliamentary group, 15 of 24 members of the Vidrodzhennia Party parliamentary group and 34 of 55 Verkhovna Rada non-affiliated deputies also backed the bill.

At the same time, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine rejected alternative bill Nos. 7440-1, 7440-2, 7440-3 and 7440-4.

In compliance with the document, the Anticorruption Court consists of judges, investigating judges and appeal chamber judges.

The number has not yet been determined.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, President Petro Poroshenko hoped that the Verkhovna Rada would adopt the law before mid-April and that the Court itself would start operating before 2019.
