The previous Supreme Court is refusing to transfer secret documents to the new Supreme Court.
The acting head of the old Supreme Court, Vasyl Humeniuk, announced this at a news briefing, the Ukrainian News Agency reports.
According to him, the old Supreme Court was not liquidated but renamed (from the "Supreme Court of Ukraine" to the "Supreme Court"), which means that both institutions are currently functioning.
He said that the old Supreme Court should destroy all its secret documents and hard disks if it were abolished.
"What is bad about abolition of the Supreme Court of Ukraine? If it is abolished, for example, the hard disk of the Supreme Court and other classified materials that can be kept for three to five years must be destroyed. We cannot transfer them to the new Supreme Court for use," Humeniuk said.
In particular, he was speaking about the cases involving rehabilitation of victims of political repression in the USSR.
Humeniuk considers it necessary to find a way out of this legal conflict or wait for the Constitutional Court's decision regarding the constitutional creation of the new Supreme Court.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the new Supreme Court announced commencement of work on December 15, 2017.
