A convicted citizen of Russia, Viktor Ageyev, was released from the service in the Russian Armed Forces in May 2016.

The Ukrainian News Agency learnt this from the court's ruling published in the State Register of Court Rulings on January 31.

The court stated in its ruling that in February 2017 citizen of the Russian Federation Ageyev through the Internet found an announcement about conscription to a terrorist organization 'the Luhansk People's Republic' (LPR) and decided to join the organization for financial reasons.

Ageyev arrived in Luhansk on March 17, 2017, and on March 18 he signed up for a service as a gunman in a separate reconnaissance unit of the Fourth Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the LPR's 'militia'.

On June 24, 2017, militaries from the Armed Forces of Ukraine detained Ageyev and his three other comrades in Luhansk region.

The evidence found on Ageyev was a military card in his name issued by a Russian military enlistment office in Altay region (northern Russia).

According to the military card, Ageyev was enlisted to the military service in the Russian Armed Forces on May 21, 2015 and released from the service on May 21, 2016.

The court sentenced Ageyev to 10 years in prison on terrorism charges, taken into consideration his sincere repentance and positive characteristics during his time in a pre-trial detention unit.

As of February 1, there was no appeal filed.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on January 25, the Novoaidarovskyi District Court of Luhansk region sentenced Russian Viktor Ageyev to 10 years in prison for involvement in terrorist activity in the territory of Ukraine.
