Court Receives 4 Appeals Against Krysin's Suspended Sentence In Veremii Murder Case

The Kyiv Court of Appeal has received four appeals against the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv's decision to hand Yurii Krysin, the leader of a group "hired thugs," a four-year suspended prison sentence for his involvement in the murder of journalist Viacheslav Veremii.

This is stated in the case distribution schedule on the website of the Kyiv Court of Appeal, the Ukrainian News Agency reports.

According to the information on the website, an appeal was received from the Prosecutor General's Office on December 28, 2017, and another appeal was received from Veremii's mother on January 17, 2018.

The appeal court also received two appeals from representatives of Veremii's wife on January 24 and 26.

The Kyiv Court of Appeal registered the case on January 29.

A panel of judges has not yet been appointed and no date has been set for consideration of the appeals.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Judge Oleh Lynnyk of the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv handed Krysin a four-year suspended prison sentence on December 22, 2017.

The prosecutor's office asked the court to sentence him to six years in prison.

The court ruled that Krysin assembled the group of "hired thugs" that attacked Veremii with a baseball bat near Mykhailivska Square in Kyiv on February 18, 2014.

One of the "hired thugs" shot the journalist, fatally wounding him.

The court found Krysin guilty of hooliganism.
