Saakashvili To Resume Processions For Resignation Of Poroshenko

Former President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili has said he would continue processions for removal of President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko from powers.

He announced this in the Kyiv Appeal Court after the court ordered to place him under night house arrest, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"I declare that we will continue our processions to remove Poroshenko from powers. Within days we will announce the start of mass rallies to remove profiteers from the government in Ukraine," he said.

He said the court ruling to place him under night house arrest aimed against his political activities.

Saakashvili said he planned to travel to Vinnytsia on January 27 and Lviv on January 28, but the court ruling has disrupted the plans.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Kyiv Appeal Court has placed former president of Georgia and leader of the Movement of New Forces party Mikheil Saakashvili under night house arrest.

Judge Larysa Tsokol of the Pecherskyi District Court of Kyiv refused to place Saakashvili under round-the-clock house arrest on December 10, 2017.

The Prosecutor General's Office stated on December 5 that Saakashvili was suspected of aiding members of criminal organizations.
